Cafe Visit: Better Buzz Coffee Roasters in La Jolla, California

Better Buzz is opening a location in Tampa, and this news is calling for a cafe visit throwback.

I first tried Better Buzz in La Jolla, California, while we were living in the Bay Area and took a road trip down to San Diego with my family. This was right after my son was born, and along the way we stopped at the beach and a super cute pumpkin patch.

La Jolla has always held a special place for me. I spent middle and high school in San Diego, and La Jolla was one of the very first towns we ever visited, even before my mom and dad chose a house for us there. It is such a beautiful area.

So, when we took that day trip with my own family (husband and kiddos), I knew we had to stop by La Jolla. I can’t recall if we stumbled upon Better Buzz while driving or if I intentionally looked up a cafe near us. When we arrived, however, the cafe was pretty busy, with a line out the door. It was my first time trying it and it did not disappoint. It has been two years since that trip, so I don't remember exactly how my drink tasted (caramel latte), but I do remember finishing every last sip. We also got smoothie bowls (or acai bowls, whatever you want to call it. I call them smoothie bowls, what do you call them? Let me know in the comments), and they were really good.

I think they also have a location in Palm Beach, but I need to double check my old photos to confirm that one.

This morning, on August 25, 2026, I was driving and saw the news that Better Buzz is opening in Tampa, and it felt so synchronistic. Between the buzz and the Hazel Honey Club's whole bee and honey theme, it could not feel more on brand. It is also just really cool that I already visited a different location, and now one is opening close to (my new) home.

Better Buzz has that fun, modern cafe feel, from the design down to the whole setup, and I cannot wait to see how the Tampa location turns out.

If you are ever in La Jolla, it is the perfect stop for a coffee before heading to the beach. La Jolla also has some great hiking spots if you want to make a day of it.
