Blogtober Day 10: Creating a Cozy Home

Ah, let’s talk about one of my favorite things to do ~ creating a cozy home. Your home is your sacred space. A place you can relax in. I believe we can make our homes, our versions of a museum and a cafe to help inspire us.

Things to Focus On

  • The lighting

    • Set the mood with lighting. Open the windows in the morning and during the evening, have candles or twinkly lights. Something that’s soft but still bright enough for you to see while you wind down for the day.

  • The textures

    • Bring in a mixture of materials like yarn wall hangings or macrame for the wall gallery or blankets on the couch with pillows. If you choose not to have a throw on the couch, place it on a wooden ladder or roll up and place in a basket. Seeing blankets around automatically softens the room and lets people know this is a place we can get cozy, and relax in.

  • The smells

    • Smell can truly affect a mood so bring in an essential oil diffuser or candles to get things set to your liking rather it’s orange for joy or lavender for calm.

  • The sounds

    • You can find fireplace sounds on YouTube, play energy cleansing, or lofi beats for an evening wind down while the daytime is something perkier with your go to playlist. I think it’s beautiful to have times of quiet, times of music, and times where the only sound filling the room is the laughter and conversations of guest.

I’m not a neat freak by any means. In fact, my house will pile up from time to time but every time I clean it, I invite new energy in. Keeping a cozy home also means decluttering, cleaning, opening the windows, and maybe even moving things around with the seasons or when the home is just calling for a refresh. Let your space be aired out and reset things every so often. It doesn’t have to be big changes, even moving the couch around could make a huge difference.

Once you’ve built your home to your liking, immerse yourself in it.

Notice the way the sun shines through the windows, invite people over, use the crafts from your supply closet, work at your desk, make a cute drink, make a meal from scratch. Use the space. Live in your home.
